dr. Sreed Sharma Kanakkillam
Short biography
Sreed completed his schooling in Kerala, India, and graduated from the University of Calicut in 2009 with a degree in physics. In 2012, he earned his first master’s degree, an M.Sc. in physics, from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, India. He then obtained his second master’s degree, an M.Tech. in nanoscience & technology, from the University of Calicut in 2015. Sreed moved to Mexico for his doctoral studies in materials engineering at the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, Monterrey, Mexico, funded by CONACYT. His research focused on the synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials and their derivatives, synthesized through pulsed laser ablation, irradiation, and fragmentation techniques for photocatalytic applications. He completed his doctorate in materials engineering in 2021 with Summa Cum Laude honors. Following his doctorate, in 2021, Sreed started working as a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Applied Sciences and Technology (ICAT) at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), funded by DGAPA. During his postdoctoral tenure at ICAT UNAM, he researched bimetallic nanoparticles using the pulsed laser dewetting mechanism until 2024. During the research academic gaps, he worked in some national and international schools. In 2024, Dr. Sreed became an MSCA COFUND postdoctoral (Mobility GT) fellow at the Laboratory for Tribology and Interface Nanotechnology (TINT), Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.
