Days of Mechanical Engineering in Bistra
date: 16.12.2014
Sixth year in a row Days of Mechanical Engineering took place in the week between 23th and 28th October 2014 in the Technical Museum of Bistra. The event was organized in collaboration of Technical Museum and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in the University of Ljubljana. Several laboratories of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering presented their activities on an interesting and educational way which was suitable for visitors of all ages.
As in previous years, Laboratory for Tribology and Interface Nanotechnology (TINT) also actively participated this year. At our exhibition stand we demonstrated the operation of manual and automatic continuously variable (CVT) transmission. At the same time we introduced the visitors to the role of tribology in the engineering applications. The role of friction, which presents one of the most important tribological phenomena, was demonstrated with the help of new sliding test rig which was designed and mounted in the laboratory TINT. The test rig has four identical tracks. There were also eight “cars” where each had bottom surface made of different material. With the help of simple experiments visitors were able to test how different contact materials influence the friction and consequently the sliding properties of cars.
